Buying wine in Madrid

Staying at the Artrip Hotel near Lavapiés shortly, and we are looking to buy wine when we are there to drink in our room. Nothing special, exotic or expensive, but everyday drinking wine.

I've tried to research this, but the specialist stores are too far away, and I can't tell from the information whether places I have found are for buying wine to take away or drink inside. I don't want to assume that wine buying in Spain is the same as in the UK.

I do not know how is buying wine in the UK. Here, all regular supermarkets and many small "convenience stores" or "minimarkets" do sell wine. Bodegas and specific wine stores would have more variety or special wines, but as you're not looking for anything fancy, just walk a bit around, you usually can't walk more than 10 minutes without finding a supermarket. I'm not familiar with Lavapies area, but I doubt it is any different than elsewhere in central Madrid. If you search for Lavapies in Google Maps and search for "supermercado" it shows quite a few (as expected).

Salud!

Thank you. I have made the mistake before when travelling abroad of assuming supermarkets always sell wine, and have ended up either not finding any wine, or finding that there are no supermarkets in city centres.

Peter:

Most supermarkets in Madrid will have wine. Good wines come from La Rioja and Ribera del Duero. There are other wine regions that are good but these two have very good wines and you cannot go wrong buying a bottle from either region.

Bodega Belmonte is an atmospheric wine shop on Calle de la Fe # 4. This shop fits perfectly your needs.

Found Bodega Belmonte on the map, and printed out. No problem.
