Monastery Hotels

Friends:

Sometimes people ask for information about monasteries that are also hotels and are looking for quiet places. Here is a website to search for these places:

http://guiasmonasterios.com/

From what I have read these are not luxury hotels, but are clean and quiet.

For a luxury hotel that used to be a monastery, the best I have seen is the Parador in Leon, situated in the San Marcos Monastery. A few years ago we had a wonderful lunch here.

We've stayed at that Parador (in Leon) on an "escape Madrid weekend" and absolutely loved it! Paradores are a great way to see some unusual buildings cum hotels in Spain and get a great meal as well. The one in Toledo has terrific food as well.
