Taxi flat rate from/to airport: €30

From January 7th, the taxi flat rate for trips between (to and from) central Madrid (inside the M-30 ring road) and Barajas Airport is €30.00. The minimum fare from the Airport to other destination outside the M-30 ring road is €20.00

It is clearly announced that the flat fee is € 30, but there are some drivers who intend to cheat tourists. When riding in a taxi at the airport, inform the driver that you know that the FLAT rate is € 30, and also you will need an official receipt (recibo oficial) when arrival at destination.

Anyone having a similar experience should ask for a receipt (recibo). That way the taxi driver can be traced. Even if you don't want to file a complaint, the driver will know you're onto him.

Thank-you Revulgo and Mamagata for your replies.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing and my hubby and I DID say we should have asked for a receipt.

Never mind, it certainly didn't spoil our holiday.....we loved Madrid :)

official madrid taxi are mostly mid size cars. they can carry up to a maximum of 4 passengers plus some luggages. you will hardly ever see any station wagon taxis or mini vans unless you book with one of the airport transfer services.

Thank you. I read your post too late. Taxis are small in Madrid and if you have alot of luggage or a wheelchair/scooter, the standard taxis will not be able to accommodate you. If you need a wheelchair taxi make arrangements in advance. Message me for a good English speaking wheelchair taxi driver if needed.

To clarify this: the flat rate from the airport (30 euros) is valid for inner M-30 belt road, ie ALL downtown Madrid. This includes the areas of Puerta del Sol, Gran Via, Plaza Mayor, Opera, Plaza de Santa Ana, Salamanca, Chamberí, Chamartin, Real Madrid stadium, Nuevos Ministerios, Chueca, Malasaña, Lavapies, El Rastro, Atocha and Chamartín rail stations, the whole tourist area of La Latina: Mercado de San Miguel and Cava Baja and others. Hardly any tourist can be interested in somewhere OUTSIDE the M-30 belt road.
