Walking in Madrid

Can my husband and I plan to walk from Atocha Station to the Plaza Mayor with a rolling suitcase each, mid afternoon ? Google maps says it might be hazardous due to missing sidewalks etc.

I think Google map walking directions are being a little over cautious with saying "Use caution – This route may be missing sidewalks or pedestrian paths." But at least they say the tool is in Beta.

I always check a road etc using Street View if I am concerned. Usually I get a good idea of the lay of the land.

Ok. Thanks, all. Street view is a great idea for now and the future!

I use google maps a lot and it always says that -- they are just covering their butts in case someone walks into a manhole or something.

mao:

There are no missing sidewalks in Madrid. You may find missing sidewalks in small towns, but not in big cities.

Yes, I'd like to second Myscreen's comment...It's an uphitll climb but doable.
