Renfe Ave Tickets now available 4 months in advance

For information, Renfe Ave tickets are now available to buy 4 months in advance, I've booked a ticket today from Madrid to Seville for mid June. The Preferente ticket was cheaper than the normal ticket

RENFE have been making AVE tickets available four months in advance for over a year now. The oft-quoted '62 day rule' ceased to be true at the beginning of last February on most routes.

In response to Hansblix I have been told in the past (3 or 4 years ago), that as soon as you type in raileurope.com it routes to an american site that charges considerably more than the national sites. I know that this was true when we brought French rail (TGV and Thalys) tickets a couple of year ago. Not sure for Spain but would love to know!

So further to my last post i did i little comparison.

Madrid to Toledo

Depart June 2 (morning) return June 3 (afternoon)

Same train numbers on both sites

renfe site (in spanish) 25.40 Euro

Rail Europe. com $40 USD

XE.com 25.40 Euro = 34.78 USD

This is considerably cheaper by about 13%

Yes, the post regarding raileurope was to show what Preferente class looked like, or what it was, not to suggest that she buy the ticket from that site. I assumed that everyone knew--perhaps incorrectly--that Rail Europe charges quite a bit more for their tickets.

Tickets that are available 4 months into the future are only a selection of trains. The full schedule only comes 62 days into the future.

Is it also possible that the discounts aren't as great so far out? I'm tracking prices between Barcelona and Madrid and they are better 60 days out as opposed to 120. Or perhaps the discounts aren't as great as summer approaches? Would one be entitled to a refund for the difference if the price drops?

no, once you buy your ticket, for whatever price you pay, it is your ticket and you are not entitled to a refund for the difference if the price drops.
