live music, night clubs and football in madrid

Hi guys,

I am visiting madrid again next weekend staying between gran via and del sol, this time with a mixed group of 6 x 20 year old and 6 x 30 year olds.

The last time we visited we spent a lot of time in La Negra Tomasa Cuban bar as we loved the live music, dancing, mojito's and people! I just wondered if anyone could advise bars/clubs (del sol/gran via) with similar traits for the 30 somethings, south american or spanish based is fine. Also, which bars and nightclubs in these areas would be more suited to 20 year olds.

Finally, we hope to watch a fair bit of the football world cup, are there any good bars to do so, ideally with a big screen, outdoor seating if possible. There are a lot of south american teams playing so brazilian, argentinian etc etc bars would be great.

Thanks

Kevin

Some of my favorite spots for nightlife:

La Boca del Lobo on Calle Echegaray 11.

Berlin Cabaret 1930 on Costanilla de San Pedro 11. Open from 11pm to 5am. Shows at 1.30am, 2.30am and 3.30am

Toni 2 on Calle Almirante 9. Piano bar where people of all ages, conditions, races, political ideas... gather together with drinks and happy spirit to sing popular spanish songs. Open: 11pm to 6am

To watch football in local atmosphere:

Sport-Pub on Calle Preciados 38. Two TV screens, beer and tapas.

If you want to have fun on Friday and Saturday (13 and 14 June) come to the street party to be held at night on Calle del Pez (Malasaña neighborhood). It is an area of bars for the young crowd. Metro: Noviciado.

Bar Palentino. The most famous dive bar in that area.

Zombie Bar. Hipster bar, good burgers.

El Pez Gordo. Tapas in local atmosphere.

Adam & Van Eekelen, 1862 Dry Bar. Cocktail bars.

La Casa del Pez. Lounge.

And much more…

Just to clarify, this a special street party to celebrate an event or fiesta this weekend and not just a regular night out in malasena?

The St. Anthony festival is actually an excuse to celebrate this yearly barrio party.

brilliant, we are staying on the gran via near callao so it looks quite close.

what time would you expect the fiesta to start and finish, i assume there will be bars showing the football as spain v netherlands is on at 9pm also.

Umm was the street party cancelled because I was in Calle de Pez on Friday night and there wasn't any street party.... I saw posters for the street party....Did the football ruin it or did the date date change?

I'm gathering it's the same tomorrow...ie not happening...

Don't get me wrong, we just hung around in a couple of bars and had fun but no street party....
