Can't decide where to stay?

Booked flights to Valencia for end of May for 5 nights, looked at lots of different places to stay but can't decide where or what to book! Went to Benidorm in June 1986 and stayed at the Helios.

We would like to be by the sea and a sandy beach is a must (don't like shingle or pebble), pool and low rise hotel/apt which rules out a lot of the Benidorm places. Would also want to be away from noise at night but like a prom/shops/rest/bars to wander a round early evening. Don't mind hotel or apt if anyone can recommend places in the mid price range. Possible:- Denia, Javea, Calpe, Altea, Albir or forget being by the sea and go to a place inland a bit. We will be hiring a car so we can do day trips.

Many thanks in advance for any advice.

I understand you didn't like Benidorm high rised buildings ?

In that case I can't recommend Gandia or Calpe.

Altea has no sandy beach

The area between Oliva and Denia has longs sandy beaches

avea has a long coastline but only one sandy beach .

Arenal sandy beach in Javea is very well-groomed (better than the long Denia beach) : Because you travel in May and Arenal beach is not crowded then, I recommend Javea (In August Denia/Oliva might be better).

You find two nice promenades with shops/rest/bars in Javea : along Arenal beach and another at the port (along the coastline gravel/rocks)

Denia obviously!!! Joking aside....

Las Marinas in Denia runs from the town to about 5km out and has many, many low rise apt. blocks with pools. As there is not a 'main drag' you feel away from hustle and bustle but there are little complexes of shops and restaurans dotted along the main coast road. There is also a regular bus service in to town. This is the sandy beach. Las Rotas runs the other way out of town has lots of rocky beaches and less apts.

Or stay in the centre in a hotel.

Websites to try for apts. are HolidayLettings, Owners Abroad or just type in holiday rentals Denia to the search engine.

However - do agree with Molineros that Denia is more 'stretched out' without a distinctive promenade area. Javea's arenal beach definitely has this with shops, bars restaurants all fronting onto a paseo and then beautiful contained beach with shallow sea. In May it will not be so busy - so this may be a better bet. Just make sure any apts. you look at are at this end and not the old town.

Drive from Valencia is about an hour (just over) to Denia and about 1 1/2 to Javea.
