Kind of sounds like the pot calling the kettle black there! We have to take on board everyone's experiences & observations surely, otherwise a forum isn't worthy of the name! Its just as valid to post about genuine negative experiences as it is genuine positive ones. This can be through personal experience or the experience of others we know and trust. This is how we find out about potential problems too, such as areas that are safer...or indeed less safe than others, or rip off exchange places for instance, or should we just let folk be ripped off & find out by experience.

I always make my decision on places based on an average of views & opinions, not just either some that are overly positive or overly negative. I'm sure most people do the same and are capable of making a balanced decision. I think we all like to read good experiences rather than bad ones, but its unrealistic, blinkered & quite frankly unhelpful to only post on things that went well & not to alert people to things that did not perhaps go as well as expected!

the original poster also asked for reccomendations on where to eat out so it is relevant to post about eating places good or bad

I don't see any attack, only an opinion, which is obviously an unpopular one with some of the posters on here. Seems to be a few ganging up against a posters opinion.

BeniBen you seem to be taking the wrong inference from my comment. People seemed to be having a pop at alleykat because it wasn't HE who had eaten there, whilst deeming it ok to mention about people who THEY knew who had. He clearly stated he knew the people, and that they'd eaten there before, and as such was justified in passing this view on, which is an opinion & in no ways an attack on the place.

My point is that i too would feel quite happy in passing on opinions from people i know & trust as well as my own thoughts on places i know well. I would not make opinions on issues which i have heard from people i do not trust or know well.

First time posters when they come on here are as welcome to air their views and opinions as anyone, and those views are as valid as anyone's, at no point have i referred to first time posters, as that is not what i was commenting on!

There are of course some people who appear to be first time posters but arn't & i think we can clearly see when that is happening!! But that's a different issue!

Best Regards - Taggy
