Alcohol & Cigs Price going up on Sat 1st September

Alcohol and Cig prices may go up slightly on the 1st Sep (Saturday) over here in Benidorm as a result of a Spanish IVA (Vat) rise from 18%-21% on both these products ! ;o( ;o( Ben

What was the rise in cigs and tobacco prices at the beginning of the summer for then? Luckily my hubby and I don't smoke but usually bring some home for family members!

This won't help Spain's economy any! As I already said, I don't smoke but do appreciate the fact that part of the attraction for some people in choosing Spain to holiday in is that cheap cigarettes can be bought and brought home to save some money when back in the UK. I've seen a huge rise in these prices even

in the 2 years since first going to Benidorm. For instance 2 years ago at this time I paid 47.50

euros for a sleeve of 10 50g Golden Virginia. Last year it had risen by 20 euros to 67.50

euros. A sleeve of 200 cigarettes was 32.50

euros 2 years ago, last year it rose to 42.50 euros. Quite a jump and quite a bad decision on the Spanish governments part especially when it's a well know fact Spain is struggling at the mo!

any rise in cigarette prices is good if it helps people making a decision to stop

and therefore may give them a healthier life

Problem there sunndays is that the price increases, in the vast majority of cases won't make people stop smoking! It will just be more money out of a families budget that could be used for something else!

I bet you have been able to save a bit more towards you holidays now Hazel. 20 a day works out at about £2,000.00 per year if bought here in UK.
