I realise that there's already a thread about this already but I thought that the people who haven't been slagging Susan off might want to hear about the night we saw her and the others that don't can skip this.
We had been in the Bodhran bar for about a hour and it was absolutely heaving, Brendan Murray sure knows how to get the crowds in. For anyone who has never seen him perform then I'd recommend that you make the effort the next time you're in Beni.
Well then Brendan announced that it was good of Susan Boyle to come all the way to Benidorm to see him (tongue in cheek) and I suddenly realised that she's been in there too and was just leaving. We stayed for around another 15 minutes but it was really hot so we decided to leave. We walked up the street and noticed the piano bar, it looked a bit pricey but we thought what the hell we're on holiday, let's try it. It was very posh and we didn't have a clue how much the prices were but just ordered some drinks from the waiter and thought about the remortgage later.
After about 5 mins, my friend said OMG Susan Boyle is on the next table. Then we saw the manager go over to her and I heard him discussing songs. He said, the pianist could play Unchained Melody so I then realised that she was going to sing!!
They then closed the top canopy to keep things a bit hush hush from the street outside. There were only about a dozen of us in there and I don't think that they wanted to get mobbed and it all be spoilt.
Anyhow she sang that song as well as a bit of blue moon but the pianist couldn't play it in her key, he kept getting it wrong so she sang that song from Jesus Christ superstar (I don't know how to love him)
I personally thought that she was absolutely amazing but before anyone jumps down my throat, that is only my personal opinion.
We also got to chat to her and I asked her if it was her first time in Benidorm and she said that it was but she's thoughoughly enjoyed it and it wouldn't be her last. She also said jokingly that what happens in Benidorm stays in Benidorm which I'm sure most people will know is a very well known saying so she's probably heard it before.
She was very willing to have a photo taken with us and was so down to earth despite her fame.
The whole experience was so surreal, we were honoured to have had a little private performance by someone who people pay good money to see so did.
The bill wasn't that bad either except for the poor girl in our party who chose only to have a sprite and was charged 5 euros for it!!!
