going to Valencia in April bank holiday

Hi

I will be going with a group of 6 to Valencia in the april bank holiday 15-20th April 2014. I just wanted to ask since this falls in a bank holiday is there places like the usual tourist things still open? and also bars/restaurants?

Please could anyone who has been send any recommendations on where to go and what to do for a hen.. we will be staying at the hotel primus so would love to hear thoughts on anyone who has stayed here and if anyone has used the spa there?

thanks!

Vikki:

Good Friday and Easter Sunday are official holidays, so most businesses may be closed, except for restaurants. Churches will be open.

Hi Vikki - if you are interested in doing things like going to Central Market, then Saturday morning is your only option over Easter weekend as it will be closed Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday - which is a Valencian holiday.

Some of the museums, etc will have limited opening hours. For example the national ceramics museum is normally open 10 -2 and 4-8 but on Sundays and public holidays is open 10-2 only. Have a look at the Visit Valencia website. Public transport schedules will be different over the holidays.

We were in Valencia at Easter last year and I remember La Lonja was open for some of the time and had free entry. Do bear in mind that if you visit the Cathedral, Basilica and any churches there may well be services taking place. You can still climb the Miguelete at the Cathedral though - we did that (again!) and we also climbed the bell tower at Santa Catalina, which is a stone's throw away.

We had an enjoyable wander around the Centro Historico on Easter Monday stopping off for coffees, then lunch, etc. There were lots of families out and about for a stroll and there was a really nice atmosphere.

If you are desperate to shop then El Corte Ingles is open, even on Easter Sunday.

On Easter Sunday if you want to eat somewhere in particular at lunchtime, I would recommend you try to book in advance as there may be lots of family groups out at the most popular places. If you want to have paella for lunch, consider taking taxis to Las Dunas in El Saler. It is only 15-20 mins from the centre of town, is on the beach and we had a fantastic long lunch there. We had booked in advance and specified a table on the terrace, overlooking the beach.
