Calling on Italy experts for Florence and Venice

My husband and I want to travel to Italy in late March and could possibly be there in Easter. We are trying to figure out where there will be more pageantry, concerts and celebrations: Venice or Florence. This will dictate where end up during the Easter time frame. Also, do you have suggestions on where to visit Bologna or Verona. We hear the latter is a gem and it may do doable as a day trip from Venice. Someone mentioned on one of the forums that you can also do a train to Bologna from Florence in a couple of hours. Thoughts on all of this and how to best get to Verona from either Venice or Florence? Your help would be appreciated as always.

Verona is a lovely City well worth a visit, it is a direct Train journey from Venice and Florence but nearer Venice,

Easter is a very busy time in both Venice and Florence,

You can check the train schedules at -

www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/index.jsp…

Choose a day within one week to see the local trains. The weekend service is usually a bit different from weekdays, but service overall doesn't change from month to month.

Back to your question: Verona is a gem and much different from Florence or Venice. Get the Verona Card which covers all the sights and buses too. A bargain.

After looking at the train schedules, it is a day trip from Venice (just over an hour on the fast trains). There only seems to be one fast, direct train from Florence, which takes 2 hours-plus and only leaves around 10 am.

I was disappointed with Bologna to be honest. Much prefered Verona. Train connections between major towns/cities are invariably very good. e.g. Venice - Verona ~ 2 trains an hour

Intercity - 1h10 - ~ €16

Regional (fast) - 1h28 ~ €6

Regional (slow) - 2h10 ~ €6
