Do you bring a raincoat?

I'll be traveling with a light coat for my trip in late March/early April. It isn't a water resistant-type coat and I'm wondering what everyone else brings in case of rain? I have a travel umbrella, but it's pretty flimsy and want to be prepared in case we get caught in any downpours. I don't want to buy an add'l coat, or travel w/an add'l coat, for that matter. Any suggestions?

I would definitely look into getting a light rain jacket. I have a very lightweight one that rolls up to a very small size. It also provides extra warmth on a breezy day, or chilly evening.

Anything you pack should be multifunctional.

For weather information about where you will be in Italy you can check www.knowital.com/weather/Italy/ and click on where you will be staying. We always travel with a single shell waterproof hooded windbreaker that comes down to your knees and rolls up to the size of a small travel umbrella just in case. Hope this helps. Mike

Thanks for the advice, but a lightweight rain jacket won't keep me warm. Plus if it started to rain & I had to change, I'd end up having to carry my coat around. I guess I could get a poncho to wear over my coat, but I'm a bit vain and want to look good - especially in Italy! (I know, I know, I should be concerned about staying dry if it's raining, and not looking good, but I can't help it!)

I wear my Burbary raincoat with the lining zipped out

I wear a cardigan under it if the day it cold.
