Hotel Forum - nearby restaurant suggestions

We are a family of 4 ( 2 teenagers ) traveling from Atlanta and will be staying in hotel forum from dec 24 for 4 nights. Can you recommend some nearby inexpensive restaurants? The little one eats Chicken nuggets all the time and we prefer healthy less cheesy food (seems like we have to eat pizza manta times).

Hotel Forum in Rome? I think you'll get more responses if you put you question in the "Rome Forum"...not the Italy forum.

I think the only place you'll find chicken nuggets is McDonald's. There are many locations in Rome.

What makes you think Roman food is cheesy and that cheese is less healthy than chicken nuggets? There's less cheese on most pasta dishes than there is on most pizzas. If you're thinking of dishes like lasagna and chicken or veal parmesan, lasagna is made with less cheese in Italy than in the US (you'll find it mostly in the most touristy restaurants, because it's not a Roman dish), and chicken and veal parmesan do not exist in Italy; they are American-Italian dishes.

I don't feel like looking up the location of your hotel, but there are literally thousands of restaurants in central Rome. Every one of them displays its menu outside, with prices. You can easily wander around and select one that has food that sounds good at a price that suits you. The price on the menu is what you pay: there is no added tax, and it is not compulsory to tip.

However, do not expect Italian food in Italy to be the same as "Italian" food in USA. Even if the name is similar, the dish may not be the same. For example, pasta Bolognese in Italy will have just enough meat ragu to coat the pasta.

But, like Zerlina, I fear that you will find chicken nuggets only in US-based fast food chains.

By decree of the Roman Emperor Nero, all chickens were selectively bred to have no nuggets. So, these days, there are no chicken nuggets in Italy except for those that are shipped in from the US via super tanker.

I ate at a Rome MickyD just out of curiosity.  It was awful by US fast food standards.  The Rome McD made the US version taste like Holeman.

Check out pizza al taglio for fast food.  It is everywhere in Rome but nowhere in th US.

To forestall many questions (especially as for some reason the link is not clickable), "pizza al taglio" is not the name of a restaurant or a chain. It means "pizza to go".

These shops have displays of a number of kinds of pizza. You indicate what kind of pizza you want, and how big a slice. Your slice is weighed and then heated for you. You pay by the weight.

It is not just everywhere in Rome: it is everywhere in Italy.

Here's somewhere we used to enjoy in the days when we were staying at the Forum quite regularly...

tripadvisor.co.uk/…REVIEWS

That's only just up the hill from the Colosseum (nicely illuminated at night), and about as far from the hotel as you're likely to want to walk - so do stop in for a look at the places you'll pass along the way, for the other evenings!

(Expand the map on the review page, and you'll see some more reviewed places in the nearby area)

Not quite as good, but fine - especially at lunchtime - would be any of the group of 4 or 5 places with open-air tables at the lower end of Via Cavour (a.k.a. Largo Corrado Ricci)... which is only 2 minutes walk from the hotel.

I think that this is the one we've usually gone to:

tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g187791-…

And although their own restaurant used to be rather pricey (and, I imagine, still is), do try to go for an evening drink at the hotel's rooftop bar, if it's open... again not cheap, but the views are wonderful!
