In Florence for 5 days; Siena for a weekend

I am looking for your expert advice TA's

We have been to Firenze twice before and have done Palaces Museums and Churches, we love this place and always enjoy Italy! Now were going to visit our son who studying in Firenze-going the later part of March. Staying in Firenze for 5 days and spending a weekend in Siena.

When he is in school, any suggestions for short (6 hours) trips by bus to just enjoy scenery and people? What other activities in Firenze?

We live in the N. Calif wine region and and have visited Toscano area for wine tasting-so we don't need to do this.

I am looking for "local" flavor in activities etc.

We will take the bus to Fiesole for a day.

When in Siena, should we just stay and enjoy that city and its wonderful museums etc or also take a bus to San G? And what bus to take?

Or is San G best for a day trip from Firenze?

Thank you to all and Happy Spring!(at least thats the weather were having!)
