Competent Travel Agent help

Has anyone used the online travel service "In Italy, Online"

http://www.initaly.com/what_we_offer.htm

I would actually like to have a personal resource to help me plan my trip...I do a lot of research on trip advisor, but there is so much to sort through, I don't know if I have time to do it all myself...when I went to Australia for three weeks, I had an Aussie expert travel agent advise me, then I researched on TA and then she helped me book...that worked out great...

any advice/suggestions?...thanks, Ana

Here's what I think; there is no such thing as a free lunch.

They claim they don't charge you anything. Well, sorry, but somehow they are making money. Which means that they are getting paid by hotels, or guides, or someone, somewhere.

And that means that it is in their best interest to put you in, say, hotel A, when in fact hotel B might be lovelier and cheaper and closer to the sites. It might mean putting you on a tour, when you can visit that site/attraction without one. You might feel you were getting a deal, but what if it was something you didn't even need?

It isn't that hard to plan a trip.

1) Figure out how much time you have first.

2) Get a guidebook for the city/cities/ areas that you want to see. Determine what you want to see, and how it will fit into the time you have. You may have to miss some things. Or lengthen your time

--post an itinerary for your trip to see if it is workable or impossible--

3) Price flights--book them

4) Price hotels-book them (I recommend www.venere.com)

5) Post a final itinerary here so that members can advise you--there may be tips they can give you to save you time and money.

6) Pack.

7) enjoy your trip!

I can appreciate your request, but keep in mind that Trip Advisor was started by a man who used to use travel agents, but realized that they had never been to the destinations he was interested in traveling, had not stayed in the hotels they were recommending, and obviously could not recommend anything else, as they had never been there.

So he started this site, in order to get advice from people who had actually been there, and could give helpful information.

T.A. is comprised of people who have either traveled extensively in the locale where you are posting, or live there. Sometimes both. So I daresay you will get better advice here than from a "competent travel agent."

Check out Ron, his site is AMAZING! If you like the information he provides, you can hire him to coach you through your trip. His site is for Rome, but he can "coach" for other areas of Italy. He's not an agent (since so many are put off my travel agents), but he can lead you in the right direction!
