What is the most similar thing to "pret a manger" in Italy?

Hi there!

I´ve recently traveled to the UK, and became a fan of all pret-a-manger stores. I love their food, their drinks, and their prices are reasonably fair.

Their stores were everywere, wich is a good thing for a tourist that travels by foot sightseeing the city, and it´s even better if you´re on a budget.

Is there anything like that in Italy? I´m planning to travel there, and want to know my budget... Before travelling to London I try a "tesco" food basket, so I could now in advance how much it would cost a daily trip to the supermarket.

How may I do that in Italy?

Any advice?

Thanks!!!

I don't know Pret a Manger in the UK, but I suspect it offers hot and cold prepared food. In Italy, almost every supermarket has a deli section where you can buy prepared dishes, although they will generally not be able to reheat hot dishes. Supermarkets and grocery stores will most often be able to make a panino or roll filled with cured meat and/or cheese. A tavola calda is like a self-service cafeteria. In Rome, pizza al taglio places offer pizza for take-out. In Venice, bacari (wine bars) have inexpensive cicchetti, tapas=like hot and cold snacks, at lunch and in the early evening.

You can look at grocery prices at this online supermarket:

There is no chain of stores that resembles the UK's Pret a Manger.

it is pretty easy to find cafeteria like places that will heat up servings of pasta etc and there are bars in some areas that have lunch selections in the cases, that can be heated up and served

and of course lots of bars have take out pizza squares and the like and there are deli like places with prepared foods
