we will be in Italy in September for a month. this time it's more scenery/nature/outdoors than museums and art. the opera, Bellagio, Lerici, and Postiano are booked (but our air is not, still waiting for the prices to come down....) our itinerary thus far....
2 nights Verona (opera)
3 nights mystery ???? (lol)
4 nights Bellagio
6 nights Lerici
3 nights Orvieto (drop off car, train to Salerno, boat to Pos)
6 nights Positano
2 nights Capri
1 (or 2) nights Rome (have been before and will be our only "repeat")
our mystery time is the 3 nights between Verona and Lake Como. we will pick up a car at the Verona airport after our two nights. we love to drive (and yes have driven before in Italy and know about the ZTL's)
we realize the Dolomites are waaaay closer. i've wanted to go there for some time now. but there is also the Val d'Aosta and the "big" Alps, which we love!
Then again, we've seen Mt Blanc from Klein Matterhorn, and from the top of the Aguille du Midi in France. and we haven't seen the Dolomites at all.
on the other hand, we worry the Dolomites can't live up to the "big" Alps (silly name, I know, but just to differentiate from the lower Dolomites)
after lots of reading, and going back and forth, we are no closer to deciding between the two. and it's only 3 nights (wish it could be more!)
