Virgin Vacations Reviews - Venice, Florence & Rome

My husband and I are trying to plan a trip to Italy and are thinking about using Virgin Vacations. Their prices are very reasonable. We have never travelled to Italy before and have not ever used Virgin before. I don't think we could plan/do the trip ourselves. Has anyone done one of Virgin's total packages with hotels, flights, tours and transportation? I have not found a lot of reviews out there and i'm pretty nervous about using them. I'm curious about how easy they are to work with if problems arise on flight/hotels/etc. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I am planning a trip similar... flight to venice from philly. 3 days in venice yhen train to florence for 4 days then train to rome for 5 more days fly back to philly. One flight was free and the hotels and b&bs as well as 5 tours and train passes have us at $6000.

I think you need to be careful if you book the cheaper of their packages, especially for hotels. I did some dummy bookings for my area to see what you could get, and the lower end hotels were in neighborhoods that I wouldn't put my mother in. The higher end hotel packages may be alright, but you need to look at maps, and watch the details carefully.

I was going to recommend the same thing about checking out the hotels that are on offer. A lot of time people book tours and then complain about the hotels and/or the location. The tour operators will list the hotels (and if they don't then just ask!) so it's best if you do a little homework. I would recommend this with any tour operator you choose so you understand exactly what you are getting.

Thanks for all of your advice. I've been looking at the hotels included and have to agree. It would be worth a little more $$ to stay in some nicer hotels/better locations. I'm trying to decide if we should do the escorted tour or independent tour and just book some tours ahead of time. Any advice on that? Thanks!

I prefer to organize all my own travel and if I want a specific tour in a location I arrange that as well. It's really up to you as to what you are most comfortable with.

Thanks for both of your replies. We went ahead and booked a few through VV and might do a few once we are in the city depending on our schedule.
