How is Lake Garda like Venice?

There is no where similar to Venice - well, not that I have ever heard about. Where did you read/learn/hear about such a city?

Bruges and Amsterdam have canals, but they are not in Italy.

Milan has canals, the Navigli, partly designed by Leonardo? They used to be used for carrying freight but now are far more for fishermen. They empty into the river at Pavia.

Comacchio, of course, nicknamed " the small Venice", but it's a village.

I ate a great eel sandwich there many years ago, we were going back home from that sad tourist trap called Venice. It was so nice to be in a real place with few tourists and honest prices!
