If you don't rent a car, the only way is by train.

For the best prices, book direct with the train operator as far ahead as possible. Trenitalia tickets go on sale 4 months before travel, and the cheapest tickets often sell out quickly. Discounted ticket prices keep going up as the travel date gets closer.

You can get train times and costs from www.trenitalia.com clicking on the UK flag to change to English and looking for trains from Bologna Centrale to the CT village that is your destination.

If you are travelling after August 29, the 'best route' in many ways is the cheapest route, entirely by Regional trains with train changes at Parma and la Spezia and a cost of only around €19. But the usual Trenitalia website does not show most of these connections as they are a few minutes slower than more expensive routes, which often also require more changes of train. Use instead www.trenitalia.com/cms/v/index.jsp… and click the 'All solutions' button for even more suggestions.

Until August 29, there are track repairs between Parma and la Spezia and it is not a good route.
