First trip to Italy - need tourism + adventure

We are planning a 30th anniversary trip to Italy next June, 2014 for 2 couples with same anniversary date. We only have 8-9 days. We want to include the typical tourism but also need to have hiking or sailing or something active included. The husbands won't be happy with just museums, cathedrals and ruins. Should we concentrate on Rome and north? Or Rome and south? Only I have been to Rome, Florence and Venice BUT it was so long ago that it doesn't really count. Suggestions for a trip that includes tourism plus something active to sooth the husbands' adventurous sides are solicited!

Would Cinque Terra be a good option to appease the men? We (the two women) would also like it. Looks beautiful. Climbing would not be a problem for any of us. How would we get there - from which city?

How about Rome and Amalfi Coast. At the Amalfi Coast you do some great hiking. A day trip to Capri might be great for the husbands. There are not many museums and churches in Amalfi and Positano. You could rent a boat and do some sailing too. Train from Rome to Salerno then a boat or bus from Salerno to Amalfi or Positano.

I second the Amalfi Coast-more options for hiking & boating, fewer museums & more beautiful vistas. I'd stay in Positano.

Capri also offers lots of walking/hiking with amazing views at the top from Villa Jovis, for example.

So many wonders on Capri - I wouldn't miss it and just the husbands go to that jewel - www.capri.net

For the AC, some info at www.amalficoast.web and www.positano.com

Your guidebook will also have a lot of possible options from which to choose.

Please do not get me wrong about Capri being good for the husbands. I did not mean the husbands alone should go to Capri but that it will satisfy the OP's concern about some activities to do to accommodate the husbands interest as well.

Hi, how about a combination of Verona and Lake Garda? Verona is small but is a very beautiful city and has a lot to see - churches, museums, Roman history, Medieval history...

The lake would probably appeal to all four of you as you can travel from one town to another by boat or bus - or simply by strolling along the lakeside from one to another in some cases.

For the men there are hiking opportunities on Monte Baldo (reached by cable car from Malcesine):

Or they could rent a boat and spend some time on the lake:
