Seeking advice for Italy-Greece trip

Hi. I'm planning a 12-14 days trip in mid September 2014 to Italy and Greece, departing from Singapore. I will be travelling with a girlfriend. The broad plan is as below:

Rome - 2 nights

Venice - 3 nights

Athens - 2 nights

Santorini - 4 nights

Will like to seek opinions on whether this is feasible. Any suggested place along the way that I can add in?

Also, any idea is it more economical to travel from Rome to Venice via train or budget airline?

Thank you.

You might do better to travel Venice-Rome-Athens-Santorini, as I cannot see any direct or cheap flights from Venice to Athens.

You are already spending only 1 day in both Rome and Athens, which is nothing like enough. Don't even think of trying to add anywhere extra.

The walk-up price for Venice-Rome train tickets is €80 but if you book soon after tickets go on sale, 4 months before travel, you could get a ticket for €29. This is cheaper than any flight, and the total travel time is about the same.

You need to be back in Athens the night before your flight back to Singapore. Too many things can go wrong getting of the islands to make an international flight.

Aegean flights Venice to Athens are summer season only: mid-September may be too late.

Except from Athens, ALL flights to Santorini are "seasonal", so if interested in direct flights from Italy, you would need to check finish dates for Volotea flights from Venice (and Meridiana from Verona).

Venice to Rome from €29, www.trenitalia.com

For Rome-Athens:

1) Morning Rome-Bari train from €29, www.trenitalia.com. Walk (25 min) or taxi station to ferry terminal near the old town.

2) Overnight cruise ferry sails at 20:00 from Bari 6 nights a week, arriving Patras in Greece at 12:30 next day, www.superfast.com. There are restaurants, bars, sun-decks, and a range of comfortable en suite cabins.

3) Buy a bus ticket Patras-Athens when you get to Patras, about 5h to central Athens.
