How to divide trip between Rome/Florence/Naples.

We have 13 nights/12 days to spend in Italy. Arriving Rome. Thinking of starting in Rome. Then train to Florence. Then train to Naples. Then back to Rome to fly home.

Interested in: architecture; history; food; art.

5 days in Rome; 3 days in Florence and 4 days in Naples?? 4 in each? Some other combo?

We have not been to any of these cities. We would want to do day trips a day or 2 from Naples and Florence - Pisa; Siena; Pompeii, Sorrento; bus ride of Amalfi coast. We do not want to rent a car so will use public transit.
