Train Travel, best and most affordable?

Traveling from Venice to Florence then Florence to Rome. What's the best, easiest, most affordable train to take? I'm a little confused by the rail system. Thanks in advance for your responses

Should your travel dates be set for intercity train travel in Italy, you can book online, train travel four months in advance for best value train fares www.trenitalia.com

There are only 2 train operators on these routes: Trenitalia and Italo. They both provide high quality services, they are both easy to use, and which is more affordable depends on the offers available when you book.

For the best prices on the fast trains, book direct with the operator as far ahead as possible. Trenitalia tickets go on sale 4 months before travel, and the cheapest tickets often sell out quickly. Discounted ticket prices keep going up as the travel date gets closer.

You can get train times and costs from www.trenitalia.com clicking on the UK flag to change to English and using the Italian names for towns, or from the competitor on major routes http://www.italotreno.it/EN

On the website suggested, the station names you require are Venezia S. Lucia, Firenze S. M. Novella and Roma Termini. Click the UK flag for English, and enter your 'hour' of departure e.g. as '13' for 13.00. To book without registration, click the 'non sono registrato' button after selecting a train.

There is also a private train operator in competition with Trenitalia - http://www.italotreno.it/en/ - though its Rome station is not as convenient for most tourists.

Hallo - we will be travelling between Venice and Florence. I went through both the Trenitalia and Italotreno websites - looks very easy to use - you mention "To book without registration, click the 'non sono registrato' button after selecting a train - I tried this and it says you will not get an invoice if you book without registration. Is that the only difference? Will we still get our booking confirmation emailed to us? We do not really require an invoice, only the booking confirmation. thank you
