Italian Lakes holiday with 10 year old in early July

Having never visited the Italian Lakes, I would appreciate suggestions of a hotel/location with our 10 year old daughter. Ideally in, or easy walking distance to a town and easy to travel to different locations (with or without a car - again suggestions welcome). We prefer four star accommodation but don't have an endless budget - a pool, good food and location the priority. I appreciate this covers a large area, but as I said, I have no knowledge of the area so don't know where to start. Maybe even splitting 7-10 days in two different locations as looking for the balance between keeping our daughter happy with the pool/friends and her parents desire to sightsee. We usually book our trips independently, ie. flights and accommodation separately, but perhaps someone may have found a package trip more economical?

Hi, if your daughter would enjoy the Gardaland Themeparks then somewhere like Lazise, Bardolino or Garda would be good.

Certainly Bardolino and Garda have a good selection of 4* hotels and both towns have excellent bus and ferry services enabling travel all around the lake. You can easily reach Malcesine to the north which would make a good day out with a trip on the cable car to Monte Baldo.

This area is also very easily reached from Verona airport, either by public transport, transfers which can be arranged through the hotels or by car.

Riva del Garda is another area you may be interested in as there are a few beach/lakeside areas where you can safely swim in the lake. Being at the very north of the lake though it is not quite as easy to get around and is quite a long journey from the airport.

This website is will give you a good overview of the towns around the lake, things to do and places to visit.
