A day trip from Rome - where to go?

This is going to be my first time in Italy. Me and my friend will spend 5 days there. Our plan is to arrive Rome in 20th of April. Our flight back home leaves from Milan-Bergamo in 25th April.

We are going to keep Rome as our base but would also like take a day trip to some other city that is not too grouded. The city/village should be accessible by train.

We are interested in historic attractions, nature and just feeling the atmosphere. We would like to take a self guided scenic walk, not too long ( max. 5 to 6 km). We would like to spend some time by the sea and have some nice meal after. Do you have any daytrip tips?

Perhaps the train from Tibertina to Tivoli.

With only 4 full days in Rome you may want to skip a day trip.

If you visit the Rome forum you'll find in the Top Questions a discussion about great day trips from the city. I'm sure you'll find something there that will be of interest to you.
