Too many stops. Too large a percentage of time in getting from one place to another, packing and unpacking, checking in and out of hotels, waiting in stations, etc, etc. Everyone else will say the same thing.

Eight locations in 16 nights is way too much. You will spend a lot of your time traveling and will only have 1 full day to enjoy each location. You'll also spend a large percentage of your travel budget on trains and planes.

Do you know what you plan to see and do in each location? For example, if in Rome you wanted to visit the Colisseum, Forum, Vatican, and a few other monuments and museums, you probably want four days there. Only you know which locations are most important to you, but I'd strongly suggest paring it down to a maximum of four locations in the time you have. Consider that it will also be oppressively hot in August, so you will be especially uncomfortable if you rush around each city. Happy planning and buon viaggio!
