Drive from Venice to Lucca/Barga

I am wondering what kind of drive it is from Venice to Lucca/Barga. Is there anything we should be aware of on this stretch of road. Are the toll roads the type where you take a ticket as you enter and when you exit you hand it in and pay the amount quoted? What is the terrain like for this stretch of highway? Any place in particular to stop off for a bite to eat or to see a particular look out point?

From Venice to Bologna and from Florence to Lucca, the journey is very boring as you go across the flat flood plains of the rivers Po and Arno. Between Bologna and Florence, you go through mountains with some nice views.

You take a ticket as you enter the autostrada and hand it in as you leave. ViaMichelin estimates a driving time of 4 hours (plus stops) at a cost of €22.30 in tolls and about €35 in fuel.
