beach town near Rome

Hello, we'll be traveling to Rome in late July with a group and decided to arrive a few days early to hang out and get over jet lag. Does anyone recommend a beach town somewhat near Rome? Or, would heading into the Tuscany region make more sense?

If it helps, we would rent an apartment or stay in a small hotel, would appreciate somewhere quiet and walkable, a town to get our bearings, eat and drink local...I guess the opposite of what will be fast paced and intense Rome (in a good way).

I thank you in advance for whatever help you could provide.
