Trains!

Hi All

What are the best train companies to use for travel between main cities/towns? How much time before departure do you normally have to arrive at the station?

Looking from going Venice - La Spezia (Cinque Terre) - Rome - Naples - Amalfi

Deciding on whether to visit Sicily or Puglia after that...

There is no check in process for trains. You can literally arrive at the last minute, buy a ticket and run on to the train. Nobody will stop you from doing so. Your ticket is checked by the conductor after you have boarded the train, and after it has already left the station. To be on the safe side you should probably arrive about half an hour before it leaves.

There is no train station in Amalfi. Take the train to Salerno, and then take a ferry or bus from Salerno to Amalfi.

Puglia is served by buses, Trenitalia, and Ferrovie del Sud Est.
