Vagabonda -- Italy vacation with small children

HI Vagabonda -- We are trying to plan a trip to Italy for August with our 3 year old daughter and 6 month old baby boy. We took our dauhter to Puglia a couple summers ago when she was 20 months old and loved it. This time we're thinking about maybe an agrotourism spot, but are also considering a beach spot. But we're not sure where to start our research. Any suggestions would be great. Thank you!

Hi BernieBernNY,

August is the peak of peak season, especially around Ferragosto on the 15th.

Italians holiday in August, flee the hot cities, and enjoy the coast, lakes and mountains. Every beach resort area will be very crowded. It would be best if you could either arrive in early August, or at the end of August, but avoid mid-August if at all possible.

Since Southern Italy is very hot in August, perhaps consider Northern Italy.

Lake Garda and the Dolomites are wonderful in summer.

Perhaps divide your time between Lake Garda and a town like Ortisei in the very beautiful Val Gardena.

If you still prefer a holiday along the coast, then consider Lerici with its Bandiera Blu awarded beach, or perhaps Sestri Levante.

A lake or the Italian riviera?:

Best regards,
