what is the best way to get driving directions in Italy Garmin? TomTOm? Data roaming?

We had tremendous success with a map and road signs. No problem at all.

All GPS systems work off the same base maps, and there are more differences between models than between brands.

I use a map and road signs to travel between towns, but have found a GPS very useful in getting me to my hotel, and in finding a way out of a town.
