San Vito Chietino - barking up the wrong tree??

We are presently looking at a lovely couple of apartments in San Vito Chietino, have never visited this part of Italy before, would appreciate any info before booking, are not after somewhere too touristy, would prefer 'Italy proper', but are we barking up the wrong tree?

Also is the weather 'hot' in August in this part of Italy, we usually prefer southern Italy for the weather?

You're definitely not barking up the wrong tree with your choice of Abruzzo, as it is possibly one of the least touristic regions of Italy. Whilst not knowing this area especially well, as it is to the south of where we are, it is known as Costa dei Trabbochi, being the ancient structures used for fishing and has a more interesting coastline than the north of the region. The Adriatic Coast is always busy in August, being the month when most Italians take their holidays and head for the coast, so all resorts will be pretty full. However, escaping inland and to the mountains of the Maiella in the south or to the Gran Sasso in the north, will give you some relief from the intense heat often experienced in August.

We feel sure that Abruzzo will not disappoint you. Fabulous food, wine, beaches, mountains, countryside, historical towns, villages, castles and fortresses and much much more.

Have a great holiday!

We are in Abruzzo (Fallo, in Chieti) every year, in August. We usually spend a few days in Rome while the family meets from various places in the USA.

The mountains of Abruzzo are lovely in August! It can be quite hot during the day, but it cools off nicely in the evening. Last year it was actually cold at night.

If you stay away from the coast you will miss the mobs of both Italians and tourists on holiday.

Safe travels!
