Sassi hotels with auto parking

Is there a Sassi hotel in Matera that has parking for our rental car? Or, what is the solution for cars and access to the hotels? We are driving from Sicily and going on to Amalfi and ultimately Rome, so getting rid of the car is not an option.

Grazie!

Hotel Sassi has paid parking nearby, and it's worth it - The hotel is a good value and beautifully positioned with views of the Duomo. It's worth any inconvenience to stay IN the sassi.

Thank you, Vagabonda,

Unfortunately there are no room availabilities for the dates we need at the Sassi. I noticed in the reviews that they offer luggage service, but without a room, it doesn't matter. Another hotel we found has complaints of dampness, so we do not know an alternate accommodation. We need the room for 11 and 12 May.

Help.

Thank you!

In 2006, we stayed at La Casa di Lucio, which was comfortable and had legal street parking just across the road. I don't know whether things have changed, but you could contact them: http://www.lacasadilucio.it/en/

La Casa di Lucio has free parking nearby - Always check directly with the hotel since online booking engines are only allocated a few rooms.

Many sassi hotels have arrangements for paid parking in a nearby garage. For example, last year, I drove to Locanda di San Martino and unloaded my luggage, and then a member of the hotel staff drove the car to the garage for the duration of my stay, with the fee charged per day.

I would caution you to get exact driving directions from the highway to your hotel; if you fail to do so, do not despair, as you may encounter unofficial "guides" on motorbikes who will escort you there for a tip. These guys wait on the road leading to the sassi and will probably find you, even if you do not see them.

I had the same experience at the Locanda di San Martino ---- I pulled over, brought in my luggage, and had someone at the hotel park my car.

Interesting about the unofficial "guides". I arrived in Matera on my own after dark, unfortunately, and so finding the San Martino was a bit of a challenge to say the least. I did see an elderly gentleman out for a walk with his dog, and he kindly directed me to my hotel, but if he expected a tip, I was much too dense to pick up the signal. :-)

Stay in the Sassi, it's lovely.

We stayed at the L'Hotel in Pietra in the Sassi . Fabulous hotel. Loved every moment. When we arrived, we drove our car to the nearby piazza and an attendant met us, took our luggage to the hotel and went with my husband to the underground garage nearby. Word of warning: the walkways are more than just cobblestone, which means they're very hard on luggage. But I am so glad we stayed in the Sassi. Wouldn't change a moment.
