Rome to the Amalfi Coast

We are visiting Umbria/Tusancy in August for a wedding, after dropping off our friends at Rome to catch thier plane home we are staying on for another 4 days and are thinking of visiting the Amalfi coast, does anyone have any suggestions of stop off places to visit or stay and where's best to stay once at the Amalfi coast we want to see the best of the coast as we are on limited time.

Thanks x

Tarryho!

Our favorite place to stay in Positano on the Almafi COast is Bucca di Baccio, or something like that. IT is the fraction of the cost of the famous La Serenuse, but just as lovely views. We had a private patio overlooking the famous Cupola to enjoy wine and cheese on. OUR room was large, romantic and gorgeous. The restraurant below also had the best food we tried in the region. Laying out on the beach, swimming near the rocks, is a slice of heaven! Enjoy!

Go to www.ondaverde.it/hoteli.htm and take a look at the Hotel Onde Verde. We've stayed there twice and we're going back in October. Great place, not in any big town, but halfway between Positano and Amalfi in Praiano, a little fishing village.

GREAT views, very good restaurant, easy to travel to Capri, Positano, Amalfi, Pompeii, etc.

Every room has a sea view, couple other restaurants close by. Incredible water, coast, sun, hotel.

Dear Tas,

Just a note/correction, the name of the hotels you mentioned are:

1. Buca di Bacco

2. Le Sirenuse.

Ciao,

By any means try not to drive on the Amalfi Coast in August!

From Rome you can take a train to Naples and from there the so calle Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento.

There are also plenty of ferry options, from Naples and from Sorrento, and they would be a lot of fun considering the temperatures during that time of year!

Ciao

We will be in Avellino visiting relatives, then on Sunday go to Pompeii with a car. Do not want to drive Amalfi coast. Is there anywhere to safely park a car in Pompeii or Sorrento, then have a driver take us to Positano, or should we just turn in rental car and re rent again on Tuesday to drive to Tuscany. We leave in May.

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Capodimonte in Sorrento. This is a fabulous hotel very central for everything, you can catch the train for a couple of euros return fare + go visit Pompeii, get the hydrofoil + go visit Capri. Sorrento itself is beautiful, hte hotel has spectacular views overlooking The Bay of Naples +

Positano + the rest of the Amalfi coast is very accessible. Word

of warning I wouldn't attempt to drive as the Italians although

gorgeous fab people drive like maniacs ! Public transport is superb + extremely cheap + reliable.
