The timetable just says Pompei S. Villa Misteri. Does the train still stop at the ruins (Pompeii Scavi)? We will be there in the end of June. Thanks.

Is there an English version of this?

The station's full name is Pompei Scavi Villa Misteri.

There is no English version, but on http://www.eavcampania.it/web/orario the only Italian you need is 'da' = 'from' and 'a' = 'to'

This map of the town, with its various public transport routes, may be useful?

How much does it cost on the train? We are thinking of using the train quite a bit. Travel from airport to sorrento, sorrento to Pompeii and sorrento to Herculaneum. We also want to go to mount Vesuvius.

Is there a travel card that we could buy? (We are there for a week).

I assume that it is better to travel independently rather than going with Thomsons own trips. How long should do we need for each activity?

Many thanks for your help

Naples Airport to Sorrento 10 Euros (Curreri Airport Bus, NOT Circumvesuviana line)

www.curreriviaggi.it

Sorrento to Pompeii 2.20 Euros on Circum.

Sorrento to Herculaneum 2.20 Euros on Circum.

Naples to Pompeii 2.90 Euros on Circum.

(All one-way fares, unreserved seats)

For 20 Euros, you can get the UNICO CAMPANIA 3-day tourist ticket, valid for unlimited travel on the Circumvesuviana trains, SITA buses, buses up and down from Vesuvius, Naples Airport bus, Trenitalia unreserved regionale trains, Sorrento and Naples city buses, and much, much more. This ticket is NOT valid for sea transportation, nor on the Curreri airport bus between NAP airport and Sorrento. The ticket is valid for three consecutive days from first use.

www.unicocampania.it/index.php…

For 34 Euros, you can get the CAMPANIA ARTECARD "tutta la regione" 3-day ticket, which adds 2 free entrances to museums/archeological sites (e.g. Pompeii and Herculaneum) to the 3-day UNICO CAMPANIA ticket described above. There is a 50% reduction in the entrance fee from the third museum/site onwards. It is a combination museum/transportation ticket, valid for the entire Campania Region. Admission to each of Pompeii and Herculaneum costs 11 Euros each if paid separately. The ticket is valid for 3 consecutive days from first use.

www.artecard.it

You need to allow a full day for Pompeii and several hours for Herculaneum. Getting to/from Vesuvius will take half a day.

Price out all of your trips to determine whether is a good deal to purchase either the 3 day UNICO CAMPANIA ticket or the 3 day CAMPANIA ARTECARD.

To find single prices for buses and Circumvesuviana trains, look here:

www.unicocampania.it

www.unicocampania.it/index.php…

The bus to get up to Vesuvius, if purchased separately, costs 10 Euros. This makes the 3-day transportation ticket even more attractive:

9. Re: circumvesuviana timetable

Thanks GAC an excellent reply to my question. Thank you for your detail. We will be in sorrento from Good Friday for a week. I am thinking that we should buy the ARTE card (€34) and use it on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to visit Pompeii, Herculaneum and then Vesuvius. That would be three full days of visiting. We have two children with us (aged 3 and 7) Would it be worth them buying an ARTE card? We were also considering visiting Capri (via the ferry), will the ferries be running on Easter Monday? I assume that most places will be shut on Easter Sunday? We would like to spend the Saturday wandering around sorrento, will we need to use transportation or is it all walkable?

Thanks again

You don't need an Artecard for the kids - just a Unicocampania day ticket. Kids get in free to the places you want to see (In fact all places I saw in Naples and the surrounding area in October my 13 year old son was free). Just be sure to have their passports/EU card in case you need to show it.
