It is busy in August and can be quite Hot, but if you have not been before it's worth it a lovely place and copes well with crowds,

Sorrento in August will certainly be hot (28 - 34 Celsius on average) and busy - peak tourist season for the British, French, Americans and Italians.

Still, it is a beautiful town in a beautiful part of Italy with lots to see and do in the area, the locals are so friendly and helpful, the local cuisine is delicious and the wines excellent and great value. That all makes for a perfect holiday.

Buon soggiorno!

We haven't been in August but most years go in June and September. Last year when we returned in Sept. a couple of the big restaurants around the main Tasso Square had undergone some pretty major renovation since our June visit - they told us that they had done the work in August because it was quiet tourist wise! Sounds unlikely but that's what they said! Possibly more Italian travellers at that time than European?

Am sure it will however be very hot - particularly if you are planning on visiting Sites such as Pompeii etc. so make sure you take bottles of water with you as there is little shade. Hope you have also booked a Hotel with a pool!

Aemon, Try the Tramontano, position A , and be wary of the ones up in the hills behind or you will be dependant on their mini shuttle

bus into town !! The Tram. has got its own bathing platform besides the pool.

Tough luck about the dreaded school hols.

Good luck.

One of my favorite Hotels in Sorreto is the Continental, very central, but also quiet, lovely pool area, the children would love it,

Save yourself the bother, go to Positano instead.

Sorrento, in my opinion, is just like Blackpool in the sun, too many English voices asking why there isn't any fish & chips.....we were supposed to be there for a week on part of our honeymoon and hated it, so went back to Capri (as we couldn't get into another hotel back in Positano)!
