There is a book you can buy with a lot of walks in the area,

Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast (Sunflower Landscapes)by Juilian Tippett,

Tghink to walk to Amalfi is a bit far, but its a god walk, from the Capo, down to the Punta del Capo, and round to the fishing village of Marina di Puolo,

The highlights of my trip to this area included two hikes - one down from Ravello to Atrani/Amalfi and the other from Anacapri to the Capri harbor area via the Fenician steps. These paths exist because the current roads were not built until the 19th century. You get to experience the country "off the beaten path" of everyone else and let me tell you, it is wonderful to be up above the masses, enjoying the lemon groves, fantastic views and solitude.

If I had had more time I would have pursued the hike you are inquiring about - my Fromers details a hike, approximately 3-1/2 hours that originates in Vico Equense (2-3 stops away from Sorrento on the Circumvsuviana train, and also reached by SITA bus) and ends up in Positano. Seek out trail maps at the tourist office in town.

I was amazed at the free maps provided in the tourist offices of Ravello (I found 2) for the numerous hikes down - all color coded - this was the only freebie I found during my Italian adventures.

Have a wonderful time -

Have a look at www.giovis.com , in particular www.giovis.com/hikes.htm and

www.giovis.com/hikessorr.htm . There are some good itineraries in english. Also some good pictures and information in english on santagatasuiduegolfi.it/inglese/passeggiate.… .

You can pick up a free map of the peninsula with the walks marked on at the tourist information at the Foreigner's club. And certainly, before you go, buy or borrow the book recommended by Sophie8.

Best wishes

Pete.
