Does anyone know the easiest way for a young solo female traveler to get from the Naples airport to Sorrento?

Yes. With the Curreri bus.

http://www.curreriviaggi.it/

It goes six times a day, at 9, 11, 13, 14:30, 16:30 and 19:30.

Or bite the bullet and book a private transfer which will cost between 80 - 100 euros for nice air conditioned car that will take you right to the door of your accommodation. Depends on your budget but is certainly the 'easiest'.

Try contacting your hotel in Sorrento if you have a reservation. We have booked a private car through our hotel (Grand Hotel Aminta) for 80 euros each way. It seemed a lot easier that way if it's in your budget!!

We have actually done the trip from Naples then past Amalfi once by default as there had been a bad accident and the main direct road was totally closed. The journey is very long and involves going up and over the mountains inland which is why you will have been quoted 290 euros - personally I wouldn't recommend it (think it took around 4 hours) but would go straight from Naples to Sorrento. As said before, part of the journey is on the highway but the rest of the way you do use the coast road and get views of Vesuvius and the Bay of Naples.

Try www.autoservizidemartinez.com or

www.gianpierofiorentino.com for private drivers.

Forgot to say, I don't know when you are going but there are major road works being carried out on the road between Sorrento and Amalfi apparently so that route may be closed anyway.

Absolutely no need to waste money on anything more than Curreri bus. You catch it right outside the Naples (very small) airport and you end up at the Sorrento station, which is close to the Piazza Tasso and therefore probably close to anywhere you'd be staying. If you have so much luggage that this is inconvenient, then you're carrying too much.
