Sorrento to Rome by train

We are staying in Sorrento for 14 nights and would like to visit Rome. Would we get a train direct from Sorrento or need to go via Naples. Does anyone know how long this journey takes. We are going to stay overnight.

Thanks

You have to take the Circumvesuviana suburban train from Sorrento to Naples, then a mainline train to Rome.

It takes about an hour to get to Naples. The time for the Naples-Rome journey depends on how much you want to pay. The fast trains cost more than the slow ones. See www.trenitalia.it/homepage_en.html

Here's the website to check on times for the Circumvesuviana train

http://www.vesuviana.it/web/en

from Sorrento to Naples train station is a little over an hour and the cost is 3.40 euro one way

Buy your tickets at the newstand before heading upstairs to the track.

Once you arrive in Naples, head upstairs and take a sharp left once you leave the turnstiles to go into the train station. Buy your ticket for Rome at any self service machine, it's very easy to do. I would look at the trenitalia site so you know what type of train you want to take (AV or IC) that way the transaction will be easier because you know your options. You will be able to use a credit card or cash.

have a good trip!

A fine idea, and you'll probably get some useful advice from this earlier thread - even though it was written with the reverse trip in mind....

tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g187785-i421-k3429…

There is also a direct bus connection (www.marozzivt.it ) which costs only €17.50 - however, as it leaves at 06:00 - to arrive at 09:45 - you'll perhaps not be very interested in that?

Good value though - and very simple, especially if you've only an overnight bag to deal with!
