To and from Naples airport on the Curreri bus

If using Capodichino, of several ways to get to places such as Pompei and Sorrento (either as a destination in itself, or to then continue on to Positano, Amalfi etc), one of the simplest and most economical is on board the buses of the private Curreri Viaggi line, whose website is here....

http://www.curreriviaggi.it/

Click on the Union Jack symbol for an English version, and then on the "Bus routes" tab.

A few notes:

1. To either destination, oneway tickets - which you purchase from the driver - are currently €10. First come, first served - with no advance bookings accepted!

2. The journey time to Sorrento is scheduled for 75 minutes, but can vary with the traffic.

3. The site shows year-round daily departures from Sorrento at:

06:30, 08:30, 09:00, 10:30, 12:00, 14;00, 15:00 and 16:30

... and from the airport (the stop is only yards from the Arrivals building exit) at:

09:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:30, 16:30, 18:00 and 19:30

In Sorrento the stop is near the town's Circumvesuviana railway station - and handy, for instance, if continuing on by SITA bus to the villages of the Amalfi Coast.

See the website for details of stops in other resorts along the way. For some you may have to tell the driver on boarding - so he knows to take an appropriate route!

If in doubt, email them using the form on the "Contacts" tab, or phone on 081.80.15.420 or 081.80.16.376

Peter

PS.... A slight oddity: the site shows one can go from the airport to Pompei, but offers no service for the return journey - so you'd need to find an alternative!

With ideal timing, the 70 minutes or so taken by the Curreri buses would be faster - but at certain times of day there's quite a gap between them, when the Alibus and then the CV train could be the better bet!

For the alternative, allow up to 20/25 minutes for the Alibus to arrive and be ready to leave, 15/20 minutes to reach the station, say 5-10 minutes to find your way down to their platforms and buy tickets, a wait from no time to 30 minutes for the usually 1/2 hourly train to arrive - and either 50 or 65 minutes (some skip a few stops en route) to get to Sorrento....

If fortunate then that's 0+15+5+0+50= 70 minutes....

... or, at worst, maybe 25+20+10+30+65=150....?

The Curreri bus drivers and similar the Sita Amalfi coast drivers, are very helpful and are happy to drop you near to your destination.

I often use them if my flight coincides with their hours. Great service! For Positano, I have the private driver pick me up at the Meta di Sorrento stop. Costs slightly less than if I go all the way into Sorrento

Probably worth mentioning that Curreri appear to have reduced their services during the off-season!

Currently their website is showing 6 daily departures:

From Sorrento at:

06:30, 08:30, 10:30, 12:00, 14;00 and 16:30

... and in the other direction at:

09:00, 11:00, 13:00, 14:30, 16:30 and 19:30

Price still €10 - but no indication of when the frequency will increase again!

Didn't occur to me to mention it before now but, when coming FROM the airport, the Curreri buses make stops at:

Pompei - Castellammare - Vico Equense - Meta di Sorrento - Piano di Sorrento - Sant Agnello - Sorrento

Whereas, when going TO the airport, one can be picked up at:

Sorrento - Sant Agnello - Piano di Sorrento - Meta di Sorrento - Vico Equense - Castellammare

.....with Pompei glaringly missing from that list!!!!

At one time their site used to offer details of how to arrange to be picked up or dropped off at the stops along the way, but do make sure that the driver knows when they're stowing your luggage in the 'hold' under the passenger cabin!

Hi - where exactly do I get on the bus in Sorrento? The Curreri website does not say - or at least I can't find it. Also, does any one know if it will be busy this Monday morning -- what time should I be at the bus stop to get the 08:30 bus to Naples Airport? Thanks,

The stop is in front of Sorrento railway station just across from the stairs up to the platforms. If you look at the station on Google streetview you will see a Curreri bus waiting at its stop. You should allow enough time to stow your luggage underneath the bus and buy your tickets from the driver, say 10 - 15 minutes.

Who knows how busy it will be on Monday but Sorrento seems pretty quiet at the moment so you could be ok. There was one occasion some years ago, and at a busier time of year, when the first morning bus did fill up but another bus was summoned so everyone got away ok. Our luggage was in fact stowed under the first bus but we had no problem in reclaiming it at the airport.

Just to note that, in the last week or so, they've gone over to the summer schedule on the airport - Sorrento route....

That's 8 buses per day in each direction, again at the times shown in the opening post.

But still no sign of their Rome route reopening!
