Is Sorrento a good place to be based to visit Amalfi coast

Is there enough to do in and around Sorrento.

If I visited Capri one day, is it feasable to visit Amalfi, Ravello and Positano on another day. Originally picked Sorrento as base because it is on the flat and am with someone who struggles with their breathing when too hilly.

If you struggle with "hilly" - just visit Amalfi and Ravello - Positano is pure vertical.

Capri too is a tad hilly in parts - but there are areas you can enjoy walking - once you get away from tourist central at the Piazzetta; a nice flat walk is along Via Tragara - www.capri.net - there is a map on that site but best to pick one up when you arrive on the island.

If you are only going for two days - then I guess stay in Sorrento. You can catch a SITA bus to Amalfi and then from Amalfi, you will catch another bus up to Ravello which takes about 20 minutes. Ravello is relatively flat as is parts of Amalfi.

If the ferries are running while you are there (I don't know when you are going), you might consider taking a ferry from Sorrento to Amalfi and back to avoid the misery of the overpacked buses.

From Sorrento, the boat over to Capri runs year round.

Sorrento would be ideal for you, as you say flat, it really is a good base, so many transport links to the places of interest in the area,

Yes Sorrento is a good place to be based to visit the Amalfi Coast.

How many days are you planning to stay and when?

Sorrento is a nice town in its own right, and public transport connections are excellent for exploring the attractions in the area.

Surely if you only have two days, base in Sorrento.

With someone who struggles with breathing on hills, you would appreciate a town on the flat, so as MomCat1992 has indicated, consider Amalfi (town) and Ravello when you visit the Amalfi Coast.

If you plan to visit when the ferry is running, take the ferry along the coast, and then perhaps also stop in Positano and stay down by the beach, but otherwise Positano would be a challenge to visit with someone who struggles with breathing on hills.

Best wishes!

There are organised Coach trips to Amalfi, which also goes to Ravello from Sorrento, a lovely drive good to be enjoyed in a comfortable coach, it is the one trip I would recommend from Sorrento not under your own steam,

All in all Sorrento is the best base, and also a interesting Town in its own right,

Here is the Amalfi Coast tour that Sophie recommends, it is very popular. Its starting point is very near the Hotel Grand Royal.
