Circumvesuvia Timetable

Hi all

Can anyone help explain the terms on this timetable - what do the D and DD mean and FER? Also what do the numbers underneath refer to?

vesuviana.it/web/…202012.pdf

Want to get a train to Pompeii to get a bus at 8.50 so trying to work out which one we need to get

Also is it best to get a UNICOCAMPANIA 3T or a Artecard ticket? Wasnt sure if the Artecard included transport, but think the UNICOCAMPANIA only includes transport?

Wanting to go to Pompeii, Herculaneum and Vesuvius, as well as the Amalfi coast

Thanks

Hi!

D and DD are types of train, same rolling stock etc but D for Diretto, direct.... and think of the DDs as being "Double Diretto" since they make fewer stops!

FER is for working days.... Monday to Saturday in Italy - to mark those services that DON'T run on either Sundays or public holidays...

You've got it... with the 3T you save €7 or so (€12 when the Artecard price rise goes through), however the archaeological sites cost some €11 each.... although either way you would have to pay separately €8 or so to enter the Vesuvius Park, when approaching the summit.

Thanks, so should you buy both the 3T ticket AND the artecard?

no, if you buy the artecard it includes the 3T transport card. If you were there for 6+ days, you might want to get an additional 3T for the extra days.

Thanks, so the artecard will include transport for the train from Sorrento to Pompeii - will this also include the bus to vesuvius?

Then I can use the artecard for Pompeii and Herculaneum? Transport and Entry??

Can this then be used on the SITA bus?

E.g. If day 1: Vesuvius and Herculaneum

day 2: Amalfi

day 3: Pompeii

Sorry have read so much stuff on this now that it is all getting very confused, your help is much appreciated!

correct.. the 2 entries (Pompeii and Herculaneum), the train to/ from Pompeii and Herculaneum, the Evabus from Pompeii to Vesuvius and the Sita bus to the Amalfi coast are all covered.

For a tenner or so, you'll find this - published only in January - a great help....

amazon.co.uk/Naples-Pompeii-Amalfi-Country-R…

The easiest way to reach those two is on the Circumvesuviana trains, whose tickets cost only a few Euro!

Possible to squeeze the pair into a day - as long as you have the stamina, perhaps?

There's little in English on the official website...

www.pompeiisites.org/index.jsp?idProgetto=1

... but this should give some idea of what there is to see; at Pompei a huge amount ( 4 hours of hard foot-slogging perhaps to cover a good proportion of it), and two - more leisurely - hours maybe at Herculaneum:

If you have to go back a second time for Herculaneum, perhaps combine that with a visit to a much smaller site which is nearby:
