Ferry or boat from Sorrento to Positano

I have been trying with no luck to contact ferry/boat companies to see if there is any boat or ferry type transportation from Sorrento to Positano (or elsewhere on the Amalfi coast) in the early part of June. No one has responded to my emails. I know the ferries to Capri are operating but I have already been there and want to visit somewhere along the Amalfi coast by ferry, if possible. Does anyone know when the ferry companies start their summer operations? Should I try calling someone and what would be the best company to try and call?

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure there will be boat choices in June. Are you going to be staying in Sorrento? If so, my guess is that your hotelier would be able to help.

Yes, we'll be at the Hilton. So you think I can wait and ask for a boat schedule when I get there? I know this question isn't on topic, but does anyone know if the train goes from Sorrento to Vietri sur Mare? Just thinking if I can't get to Positano by boat, maybe to Vietri by train and do some shopping. I think public bus travel is not an option for us; my husband hates crowds and they're bound to be crowded in the summer.

According to the website there are currently 2 journeys per day however it is only certain days (do google translate). I suspect in June it might be daily??

To judge by what's happened this last two years - the length of time they've offered the service - there'll continue to be just the pair of departures already showing on Alicost's site.... web address as in #4 above.

Several of their group's routes have started 2013 with an intermittent schedule, however those that I've asked about will be going daily from June 1st (or perhaps, when push comes to shove, from the Friday of that weekend?), so I'd expect that one to be doing likewise!

Till then it's Mon, Wed, Fri & Sundays...

.................................

As an alternative, if you'd be OK with the set times of an excursion, there's also the "Azzurra" cruise offered by these people - with which you can get off at either Positano or Amalfi...

Click on one of the bright blue date stripes, and - on the next screen - on the Union Jack symbol, to see an English description... that's, hopefully, up to date!

Later in the season, the very jolly ship they use...

..... also does a Procida/Ischia outing on Thursdays, and we've often watched their passengers come ashore for some time here!

.................................

Otherwise, I think we eventually covered just about everything there might be in this - back in 2011...

As for your other idea.... Vietri sul Mare is well worth a visit, it's a decidedly pleasant little town that's much less dependent on tourism than most of those in the area. Try....

Sadly however the Circumvesuviana train line doesn't offer any particularly easy way to get there (but see [*] below) - and, last year at least, there were no sea connections from Sorrento to Vietri, or even the nearby port of Salerno.

For, probably, about the same price as being driven, naughty children might sign up to this company's coach outing to Paestum, and perhaps enjoy their tour of Salerno, before then "jumping ship" to take a bus, train or taxi the very short distance to Vietri?

www.goldentours.it/en/salerno_e_paestum.php

Equally awkward to get back however! Assuming a taxi/driver is out of the question (although you might well need one, if laden down with some of the ceramic wares for which Vietri is famous!), either:

- return to Salerno for a boat to Amalfi or Positano, then the second Alicost connection to Sorrento

- by SITA bus; one to Amalfi and change there for a second to do the remainder.

- a Trenitalia or Metropolitana train from Vietri to Naples (going back via Salerno or not, as you choose) and then out again on the Circumvesuviana - with the possibility [*], for the slightly more adventurous, of changing from one line to the other at various points along the route, so as to avoid the long and fairly slow dogleg to Naples and back...

Let us know if you're interested in doing the last of those, as there are several options - but no direct route!

Thank you so much for your imput; I think I now have a plan in mind. I am hoping to book a private day tour so as to see Paestum and Ravello in one day. I think I will ask to make a quick stop in Vietri, as it looks like it's on the way back. To see Positano, we will take the ferry; just have to decide whether to spend 50 minutes there or almost 6 hours. We can play that by ear. We've already been to Amalfi on a prior visit.

Did you find these people?

Although they don't go to Sorrento (nor Vietri, I think!), they do connect many of the other places...

I already tried emailing them but they didn't respond. I might try and call them before we leave and see if they are operating a ferry that we might use.

Thanks.
