Naples....to Sorrento

Hi-

I will be flying into Naples in July and staying in Sorrento. I was looking to take the Alilauro Hydrofoil from Naples to Sorrento. What is the best way to get from the airport to the Hydrofoil? Also, I've read that it's fine to purchase tickets for the Hydrofoil once I get there. Is there somewhere that I can find a daily schedule?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

thanks!

You can take a taxi for a fixed fare of 19 Euro (information on the city web site here: http://www.comune.napoli.it/flex/cm/pages/ServeBLOB.php/L/IT/IDPagina/16974) or the Alibus for 3 Euro (information here: http://unicocampania.it/index.php?lang=en&center=inside&colonna=turisti&action=alibus).

I'm not entirely sure where the Alibus stops these days, given the construction in the area. It used to stop a short walk from the port, not right at it, but that may not be true right now.

Unless you've any great need to go by sea, and can bear sitting for another 75/90 minutes, the Curreri Viaggi buses offer a cheap (€10 per person) and very simple way to do that journey - see the entry about them in the list of "Top questions about Sorrento".

By July they should be on to their high-season schedule, with 10 runs in each direction daily!

.......................

Otherwise, try this for details of the 6 or 7 daily hydrofoils on the route:

tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g187782-i162-k62…

(new schedules from 15 June perhaps, though in previous years bringing only minor changes on that particular route!)

To get to Beverello, the Alibus is fine (the stops were moved last year, so it now leaves from outside the Departures building and arrives at the port very near to the ticket offices!) - or a taxi will be perhaps 10-15 minutes quicker.... worthwhile if it lets you avoid the fairly lengthy gap between departures?

At the far end, to get from Sorrento's Marina Piccola up to the town there are taxis, or this...

www.unicocampania.it/index.php…

Especially if laden with baggage, the Curreri bus might be the better choice - saving the hydrofoil for when visiting Naples?

Hi Peter.

Thanks so much for this great info. Will go through it and see which option works better. I see that you live on Ischia (which I've heard is beautiful), so I hope you don't mind if I ask you another question. I've heard that both Capri and Ischia are wonderful for a day visit. Since I will be staying in Sorrento....I was wondering if one was easier to get to than the other.

Thanks so much.

Hi!

They both involve a short sea journey - but with only one hydrofoil to here and back (sets off at 09:30 and leaves again around 17:20), as against a whole host of choices for the Capri trip:

Obviously I'm a little biased - but, for a nice introduction to all 3 islands in the Bay, you might try:

Hi Peter

Many thanks for this info, we are also off to Sorrento soon so very useful. I have been to Capri before although many years ago, but this time we may visit Ischia which I do hear is very nice.

Cheers

We think so - and have been here since arriving from London in 2003!

For some info on getting to Ischia, this may be useful?

And perhaps have a look through the magazine for visitors - mostly bilingual, with the most recent edition available in PDF format by using the topmost "Download" button here...
