Amalfi Coast Car Hire?

We are traveling into Naples on the 20th of August for two weeks and are planning spending ten days traveling the amalfi coast including a three night stay and capri.

Then we will finish off in Rome!

Now I have no problem driving in italy being half italian it doesnt bother me in the slightest but heres the long and short of it.

Would fellow travellers reccomend that i take a car...

Im thinking basing our stay in sorrento and using that as a base to travel the coast.

going to capri for a few days at some point and then heading straight for Rome for 3 or 4 days at the end.

Also if i were to take a car I would need to leave the car in sorrento, would this be very expensive? does anyone know a rough cost?

so heres my plan in my head anyway.

1. Fly to Naples

2. Drive to sorrento check in

3. Travel coast by car for a 5 days.

4. leave car in sorrento stay in capri for a few days

5.pick car back up go to Rome

6 check out of car in rome.

7. enjoy rome.

haha This makes sense in my head!
