Public transportation fr Sorrento to Almafie for the day?

We have one short port day in May 2014 and would like to try to DIY to see the Amalfie coast from Sorrento. Is there such an option and is it feasible to do in less than 8 hours.

Thank you.

The direct bus is the fastest means of public transport from Sorrento to Amalfi, it takes 1 hour 40 minutes. Here the timetable:

Consider if it may be convenient to get to Positano (just to get an idea of the Amalfi Coast). On this case the trip takes an hour

Yes, there is a bus and it *should* take 1 hour 40 minutes but this can't be relied on due to traffic. This bus is also notorious for its lack of comfort and the fact that it is always crowded. The likelihood of you seeing anything resembling a view is remote. You're most likely to see nothing but the backs of the standing passengers.

As you're on a cruise, the only practical way you could get to Amalfi is via a private car/driver service. The ferries/hydrofoils won't suit due to their timetable structures. There are many driver services. I have used two for the area - Guemar Travel and Worldtours. Reviews are here:
