Garibaldi Train Station to Naples Archaeological Museum

What is the easiest way to get from the Naples Garibaldi Train Sation to the Naples National Archaeological Museum?

We are on a tight schedule and don't want to lose time getting lost :)

We will be arriving on the train from Sorrento and want to get to the museum.

Should we take an underground metro train? a city bus? How much is a cab?

Any ideas would be most helpful! Thanks in advance :)

metro (to Cavour station, and then walk through underground passage to Museo station and then up to the museum). quicker than a taxi.

Thanks nyplaymaker!

We heard that it is confusing getting from the Cavour station to the Museum? Is it well marked and easy to find your way out of the station?

Not confusing at all. The tunnel entrance has a sign that says "Museo." And a lot of other people will going that way. And the tunnel has a moving walkway.

And FYI, I'm pretty sure your Circumvesuvianna train ticket will cover the transfer to Naples' Metro system.

The first time I was there, I could not spot the entrance to the tunnel leading to Museo, even though I was looking for it! But I just went outside Piazza Cavour and walked up the hill, it possibly even took me less time than remaining underground and walking to Museo. The museum is easy to spot - a big red building.

The Circumvesuviana system is different! You will need to buy another single ticket at the small shop in Piazza Garibaldi, before you go down to catch your train.

Re.... "The Circumvesuviana system is different! You will need to buy another single ticket at the small shop in Piazza Garibaldi, before you go down to catch your train."

No, that's not correct!

The ticket that brings you from Sorrento - the UnicoCampania U5 - can also be used in Naples...

www.unicocampania.it/index.php…

... with conditions for its €4.10 "single" version as follows:

"This ticket is valid for 180’ minutes from the first validation. It must be stamped at the beginning of the journey from a town in fare zone 5 to Naples or vice versa. It can be used for a single trip on each railway service by the Consortium companies. On Metronapoli services, it allows you one trip: on the Funicular of Mergellina, on one of the other three Funiculars and on each underground line."

.....................................

So just continue on, going up one level from the CV platforms, to those used by Metro line 2... perhaps carrying copies of the PDF maps here with you?

We used the same ticket from Sorrento to Naples, the Naples Metro and the Funiculars, at some barriers on the Funicular were we could not get through the barrier we showed the ticket to a guard and he let us through.

We went last month and the new Metro link was open.

From Piazza Garibaldi train station follow the orange signs for Metro Line 1:

(exit at main station entrance, go over pedestrian crossing and

walk to the left of the building works until you see the orange M sign)

You can use the Circumvesuviana ticket to go through the barrier.

The line 1 Metro trains go to Museo, and Cavour now seems to be closed.

( Look for the platform for Garibaldi on return journey)

When you come out of the station at Museo, it takes you to a small museum showing the archaeological finds from building the new Metro, very interesting but not the Museo proper which is the huge building up at street level.

Pick up a map of the museum layout at the info desk before buying tickets.

The museum is amazing!
