Which Catacombs are a MUST see? Can't make up my mind...

Hi again,

Which of the catacombs in Naples are a MUST see? From my research, these ones seem to be on the top of the list:

Napoli Sotterranea

San Gennaro

San Gaudisio

We will probably only have time to do one of these and I don't want to miss out on the best one... Anyone done all of these to make a suggestion?

Thanks all! Much appreciated!

Napoli Sotteranea is not a catacomb in the sense of it being a religious burial place. It's under the historic centre of Naples and was - among other things - an ancient Roman aqueduct/water storage area, a WW2 bomb shelter and a rubbish dump. I loved the tour down there and the end of the tour (I won't spoil the surprise) is incredible.

The catacombs of San Gennaro are near Capidomonte so you could theoretically do the catacombs in the morning and then visit the superb museum and gardens in the afternoon. You must book a tour to do these catacombs.

Kathy said exactly the difference between Napoli Sotterranea and a catacomb: I agree with her, you should do both, as both represents a "must" , in their difference and hystorical/cultural heritage. If you can, don't miss it...
